How we handle your information

Last updated: May 9, 2026

The short version

Ashford Neighbors is an open, free community site. The Daily Brief and the safety map are public. If you sign up for the email, we collect your name, email, and (optionally) your address — only to deliver the Brief and to round to your block when something happens nearby. We never sell or share with anyone.

What we collect

For email subscribers: name, email, and optionally a street address. For neighborhood reports submitted at /report: your name, email, and what you saw. Reporter name and email stay on the moderation queue — never on the public Brief.

What we publish

The public Brief and archive show items at the block level (e.g. “12500 block of Shepherds Ridge”) — never a full street address. Names from neighbor reports are stripped to vehicle, clothing, or behavior descriptions before publishing.

What we pull from public sources

Police reports (HPD, Harris County Sheriff, Pct 5 Constable), the TX DPS Sex Offender Registry, NWS weather alerts, USGS flood gauges, CenterPoint outage data, and local news. All of this is already public — we organize it for you.

HOA portal data

HOA updates appear here only when a watch captain enters them manually. We don’t access the HOA portal without explicit consent.

Retention

Items age out of the index after 18 months by default. To unsubscribe from the email or delete your account, reply to any Brief or email hi@ashfordneighbors.com.
